*****5 stars***** Review by Christina
5 burning stars! I can't believe that Kandi Steiner holds to two of my favorite reads of the year! Actually I can, she knows how to get me right in the feels. The emotions she pours into her novels are so real. The angst in A Love Letter to Whiskey...whew! My stomach clinched the entire time.
Using whiskey to describe a man was so alluring. It was one of my favorite parts of the book. Each stage in life becoming more intense. Each stage more addicting. Each time more difficult to find sobriety.
I usually talk about characters in my reviews but I want you to meet Jamie and B for yourself. I found myself daydreaming of them taking rides together, surfing, laughing and breaking each other's hearts. I couldn't get them out of my head. I cried through the last 20%, screaming at Kandi for wrecking my heart. Then, that ending. I am still screaming at Kandi now! This is definitely one for angst lovers.
Here's the blurb:
It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.
Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.
It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.
It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.
But we can’t start here.
No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.
Back to the beginning.
Back to the very first drop.
This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.
