How it all started...
This blog started out as just a Facebook page in December of 2014. I wanted a way to tell people about my favorite authors and their books. I read a lot, and was always being asked by friends, "What should I read next?" Social media was my avenue to recommend the stories I love, discuss my favorites with other readers, and support some incredibly talented authors. I only told one person about the page, Ana O'Rylee (you'll occasionally see her guest reviews on the Facebook page). I had no idea what I was doing, and I didn't want to have to tell anyone I had failed, if I couldn't make it. A few weeks later, the page was given a shout-out by the one and only Colleen Hoover! I can't even describe to you all the absolute insanity that followed. Approximately 2,500 new followers came to the page in a matter of minutes. Ana and I were on the phone, screaming, crying, eeping, squeeing, and making all sorts of excited sounds we'd never made before. I mean...Colleen Hoover told the CoHorts to "like" my Facebook page! WHAAAAT?! Sometimes, I still can't believe it. Needless to say, NYMR was no longer a secret. I blog under the name of "Abby O'Shea." This is a combination of two of my favorite heroines, Abby Abernathy (Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire) and Ava O'Shea (This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas).
I have recently (as of March 2016) started a new company with an old friend, Reveal Book Box LLC. You can find more information about this subscription book box at revealbookbox.com and on social media sites @Romance Reveal. Because I am so busy with Reveal, I have added another reviewer to this blog. Her name is Christina Westrich, and she's fabulous. I have no doubt you can trust her reviews as much as you can mine.
What you'll find here...
99.9% of the books I read and review are romance with a happy ending. Usually they're contemporary, YA or NA; sometimes they're dark, erotic, or paranormal. Once in a while, I'll read (& LOVE) a story that doesn't have a traditionally "happy" ending, but it's rare. I read this genre to escape into a world that is different from reality, so I prefer them to end happily! I *never* leave a bad review. If I read a book I don't like, I will move on without mentioning it. I like to keep things positive. I *never* rate a book fewer than 3 stars. Therefore, you will hear me rave about A LOT of books! My favorite stories hook me quickly, make me FEEL, have a happy ending, and leave me with a killer book hangover! To find reviews, check my BOOKSHELVES. If you're looking for a book I've mentioned on social media, you'll probably find it on my TBR shelf. Blog posts, Author Interviews, and Book Boyfriends of the Week can all be found in my RAMBLINGS.
My rating system...
3 STARS: I liked the book.
4 STARS: I really liked the book, and recommend it.
4.5 STARS: I really, really liked it, and I think you should read it too.
5 STARS: I LOVED IT, and it's probably a favorite.
6 STARS: These are the all-time favorites. It's a pretty rare rating for me.
A bit about me...
I am 36 years old, and I'm married to the guy I've loved since I was just 15. I'm not much of a romantic in real life, but I do love that! I realize how lucky I am to have found the other half of myself at such a young age. I am a stay-at-home mom of two awesome, crazy, sweet, lovable, active, rage-inspiring, adorable, kind, stubborn, challenging boys. They make my head spin, but at the end of the day (when I can't wait for them to go to bed), I wouldn't have it any other way. They are 10 and 7, and they are amazing. Whenever I'm away from blogging/reading/reviewing, it's because I'm volunteering at their school, tagging along on a field trip (usually to the embarrassment of the older one), or carting them around to baseball, soccer, basketball, guitar lessons, or one of the million other things they do. It's not likely that I'm cleaning my house or making dinner.
I love interacting with other readers, so please leave comments and be active on the Facebook page! One of my favorite things to do there are RANDOM ACTS OF FUN-NESS, where I randomly choose page participants to receive prizes (free ebooks, gift cards, swag, etc.).
