This Old Heart of Mine (ARC) by AJ Compton

**** 4.5 stars **** Review by Christina

When I read, I read with my emotions. Letting my heart hang on every word of the author. Some stories give me butterflies, leave me warm, make me soar, a few will even make me rethink how I live my life. This book fell into that category.

We meet Ava in dire circumstances. She is hanging on by a heart string when she gets news that really begins her life. I LOVED Ava's (and Finn's) way of living twice. Experiencing things she never had no matter if it was a hobby, a hairstyle, clothes, even food. Things we all take for granted. I admired her ability to recognize when she was losing the importance of her life. Because of that she volunteered with children who had life-threatening illnesses.

Ava meets Gabriel, her first interest at a possible relationship. I liked these two together SO much. They challenged one and another. Supported and encouraged each other's goals. Exactly what a healthy relationship should be...until it wasn't

After the twist, Ava did the things I wish I would have done. She really set out to find herself and did the things she had wanted to try. It was inspirational. I don't want to say much more but I loved the ending. I cried, but my heart glowed. Read this...TWO EPILOGUES PEOPLE! I'm left with a new outlook on life.

Here's the blurb:

Ava Malone knows all about being broken-hearted.

Born with a severe heart defect, she’s spent her whole life in and out of hospital desperately needing a transplant.

Just days from death, her weak prayers are finally answered, and she receives a new heart; one that not only saves her life, but changes it forever.

Now fit and healthy, Ava is able to do things she only dreamed of, like get a job and some independence, fall in love, and finally live life to the fullest.

But her journey of self-discovery takes her to places she never expected. Along the way, Ava doesn’t just find the woman she was always meant to be, but she also finds out more about the woman who no longer is. The one who gave her this new life because she lost hers.

Faced with a devastating dilemma, Ava must decide whether the heart that’s pumping inside her body now belongs to her, or is still beating for someone else...
